Les Palmer pushed the chopper for all she was worth. As soon as she was airborne, he pointed her to the closest edge of camp and started his run.

Swooping down in a lazy arc, he fired the Vulcan in short bursts, hoping to preserve as much ammunition as he could. With a cycle rate of 6,000 rounds per minute, the six-barreled rotary cannon could level the forest in seconds.

Les ground his teeth as he pulled the chopper up and swept to the side, lining up for another strafing run. “They’re breaking back to the woods.” Les didn’t recognize the tech’s voice, but he was determined to keep the monsters in his sights.

“Copy that,” he grumbled as he swooped low for another run.

His thermal imager wasn’t high definition. Basically, he saw a wall of warmth just inside the tree line. That was his target. He adjusted his grip on the fire control stick, making slight side to side sweeps as he let the cannon rip holes through anything with a heartbeat.
